Genetics can be a main contributing factor to adult acne, so if both your parents have adult acne then I think you’re justified in being concerned. If I were you, I would talk to your doctor and bring up the topic of prescription retinoids. Your dermatologist can prescribe retinoids, including Retin-A and Differin, which accelerate cell turnover and have been used to treat acne for a very long time. Retinoids are effective for treating blackheads and blemishes, but in addition, they’re also used to reduce wrinkles and improve the complexion (could be helpful for your parents too). Also maybe look into using OTC products containing 2.5% benzoyl peroxide to treat your acne.
Sensible diet, good hygiene and low stress should keep acne away. If it does flare up, change pillow cases, sanitize towels, facial makeup brushes and cellphones – anything that comes in contact with prevailing acne and could infect again.
There are some great OTC acne products like "Niapads", "Cetaphil" etc that are simple and easy to use. The most effective product is one that is "simple" to use. Complicated regimens lead to complacency and prolonged acne breakouts.
With "Niapads" you can cut a piece, wet it with water and place it on the pimple. Active ingredients penetrate the skin and provide relief.
Dermatologists have been using Blue Light Acne Therapy to reduce and eliminate acne breakouts for over 20 years. This technology has been proven effective in numerous clinical studies conducted by the American Academy of Dermatology and the British Academy of Dermatology.
Blue Light Therapy works on a simple principle that was discovered by medical researchers in the 1970′s. They found that light specifically focused in the 405nm – 420nm wavelength band has the unique ability to kill p.acnes bacterium, the most common source of acne in teenagers and adults.
