What causes adult acne other than hormones?
I am 26 and suffer from acne. I went to my doctor and got extensive blood work; my hormones and thryoid are all completely normal. What else could it be? Will I have acne forever?

look at your diet. high glycaemic index foods can make acne worse. this includes rice, bread, pasta, dates and other dried fruits. whilst you may think they’re healthy, they cause rapid rises in blood sugar and can cause inflammation. stick to a low GI diet and make sure your digestion is working properly. do moderate exercise regularly, and drink a lot of water and herbal teas. maybe cut out dairy for a while aswell, this makes a difference to some people.
also, cod liver oil is rich in omega 3, vitamins A and D all of which are essential for healthy skin so try that. burdock root is also supposed to be good for chronic skin conditions.
ohhh i don’t think so. you should have a good treatment in it.
Other Reasons for Acne can include:
Oily Skin ,
Impurity in blood ,
Stress level ,
Too much Junk Food
Fungal/Bacteria
Clogging of skin pores due to Makeup / Dirt
Sadly genetics. Have you tried any other options like Murad or even Proactive? I am guessing they may have you on accutaine, which can be bothersome for some
i suffer from acne, so im somewhat of an expert.
its NOT what you eat, its your glands, the gland that produce oil, overproduce it,so your skin is very oily and that clog’s pore and causes acne.
your sebaceous glands. there is medication to stop them form producing oil, but its expensive.
my advice? go the cheap route and DONT buy expensive acne creams and washes, use plain ivory soap. wash your face 2-3 times a day keep it as dry as possible.
i dont know if it will last forever,it may stop after a certain age, but im 43 and mine never stopped
bad diet. I have been eating junk over the last few months and my acne just flared up and I am 22.
cant really answer this question but the sun helps and also swimming try swimming 2s a week
Do you eat sugary foods? Don’t indulge in those foods, that’s one source of causing acne.
Word of advice: Make water your friend. Drink lots of water.
No matter what age you are, acne is caused by the sebaceous glands. These glands are attached to the hair follicles and they make a oily material called sebum. Acne lesions form when the hair follicle gets plugged with this sebum and dead skin cells. All this is believed to be caused by male hormones called androgens in the body that become active usually between the ages of 12 and 21. So it is important that you look for a underlying cause of acne that happens for the first time if you are an adult.
Usually acne in adults that appears at ages 25 to 30 happens for one of these reasons:
1. It is reoccurring after having it as a teenager and it cleared up.
2. Stress will sometimes make it act up especially after having quiet then you have lots of stressful events in your life. Pregnancy can also make acne flare up with all the hormones that are being created with the formation of the new baby.
3. It could be a food allergy or build up of toxins and the liver and kidneys are overloaded with toxins and they cannot rid the body of them efficiently.
Some causes of adult acne can be:
* Certain medicines. Some medications that can cause acne flare ups are anabolic steroids(these are used by some athletes to get bigger muscles), anti- epilepsy medicines, anti-tuberculosis drugs, and some medicines with iodine in them.
* Constant Pressure on the skin. chafing from physical objects on the skin anywhere on the body can cause acne to flare o[ such as backpack straps and headbands.
* Industrial chemicals with chlorine in them. This may cause chloracne. The lesions are found on the cheeks and behind the ears.
* Metabolic conditions. Hormones that change suddenly like menstruation, pregnancy, menopause and hormone abnormalities can cause acne to rear its ugly head.
Acne in adults may be hard to diagnose if it has multiple occurrences. Check what many patients with bad acne that keeps happening have used. Find out all here:
