I am 18 weeks pregnant and have used a topical acne treatment about 3 times and it contains 2% salicylic acid?
I just read about the dangers of salicylic acid when pregnant and so far I have used this topical acne treatment only 3 times during my pregnancy and am hoping I didn’t do anything to hurt the baby? Is this ok?
I am definitely not using it anymore but am wondering if I could have already caused some damage to my baby?

Acne
Maintain a routine. Most acne treatments take time to work. It usually takes between two and eight weeks before you see any significant improvement, so you are going to have to be patient. Once you’ve gotten your acne cleared up, it’s important to continue with the treatment that’s working so it does not return.
If all else fails, contact a doctor. Mild antibiotics that are available only by prescription can help reduce acne. Keep in mind though, that the widespread overuse (taking antibiotics when you really don’t need them or for something they don’t treat) and misuse (not taking medication for the specified amount of time) of antibiotics has led to the development of multiple antibiotic resistant bacteria. That means that the antibiotics won’t work for the things they used to (including your acne).
Keep hair off of your face if at all possible. If you want to keep your bangs, then consider taking showers regularly or keeping your forehead clean with oil-dabbing cloths / clean tissues / etc.
Salicylic acid is a no-no for pregnant women. High doses of the acid in its oral form have been shown in studies to cause birth defects and various pregnancy complications. Again, doctors are being cautious by recommending that pregnant women avoid the topical use of salicylic acid. Small amounts applied to the skin — such as a salicylic acid-containing toner used once or twice a day — are considered safe.
Stop using it now!!, find another alternative thats not harmful!
Salicylic acid is also Aspirin (ASA) so as a topical cream you are likely using such a small amount it will be fine, but call the drug store and ask the pharmacist.
It is dangerous to take Aspirin during pregnancy because one of the side effects of taking it by mouth as a pain killer, is that Aspirin thins your blood – which could cause bleeding in the baby – but using a tiny bit on the end of your finger, and putting the cream on your face, it such a minuscule amount, I can’t see it doing any harm at all, but check with the drug store.
High doses of the acid in its oral form have been shown in studies to cause birth defects and various pregnancy complications. But not in topical form. So dont worry. Just stop its use now. Your baby is safe.

As you have put..you have only used a TOPICAL CREAM,Not oral form like seems to be repeatedly mentioned in your answers??…You are quite right in thinking that we shouldn’t really use this during pregnancy,However,I feel a topical cream is like most other things..you can’t even take flu remedy when pregnant or a pill for indigestion,so I think it is the medical profession’s air of caution as always. You should only never use it genitally while pregnant, that’s all.
Halfway through my pregnancy I used pure salicylic acid on my feet as they were extreemely painful and everything was and is fine..So,it just depends in what form it is used so don’t worry about using a treatment with only 2% content, you will have done no harm whatsoever.
Hope this helps & Good luck in your pregnancy! xx
